Note: I genuinely want this site to improve. I will list things here as i think of ways to potentially make this a better experience for everyone; with the hope the Devs may see.

Gallery organization: Sort Functions

What it would do:

Sort/display deviations according to date (oldest/newest), name, or manual (obtained) within a specific folder, (not gallery wide).

Where would the option be found?

From within the folder edit.

Why offer this feature?

- This would help customise galleries meant to show progression, vs galleries meant to display information, or things relevant to eachother that need to be found. Characters, worlds, environments, etc, of the like for ARPG's, Species, or Adoptable's Creators.

Gallery Search

Clarify by what means this search "searches". By comment? by title? by description? For some deviations, even if i list a keyword in the title or the description it does not display in the search. Is this a bug?

Artist Profile (From Artist Home page)

Allow the option for an artist to decide if they want a "Read More" button on their page or not (from the edit profile menu). Do not cut off excess text in the "Read More" option. Display the rest of the entire bio. Do not force viewers to open the About page.

Journal Editing

Scroll Space

Allow some scroll space at the end of the current text. Its a bit stressful to constantly look down at the bottom of the screen rather than in the middle, (which is a normal and more healthy position,).

Headers Navigation

For long journals/tutorials/explanations this is extremely useful. It could appear to be similar to the Gallery Navigation for continuities sake.

Deviantart - folder navigation

Deviation Linking

After a deviation is uploaded, it creates a gibberish of problematic text. To fix this, in old DA, I used to refresh the page by clicking the link of the image's title. Now this does not work.

To get the cleaned link now I have to find the point in which the gibberish begins and the real link ends.

i realized that by clicking the side arrows and clicking the reverse arrow to go back to the previous deviation cleans the url.

Deviation View - Display Folders

Selecting a deviation strands you on an island. Enable back to folder, or display the folders to view from that deviations page on the left, same as the gallery navigation widget i displayed above.

Deviations: Assign multiple images to a single deviation upload.

This would be invaluable to comic creators!!! PDFs are the only alternative to this, and they do not display well on mobile, and take a while to load.

Why add this feature:

Some comic creators submit a single image and hide the rest of the series in scraps, relying on linking all of those pages to a single deviation. Its alot of work to do, and compiling all of those images into one image is asking for a computer crash.

Ways to add this feature:

Upload deviation, beneath uploaded deviation upload more.

Deviation type: Comic Chapter, enabling the listing of 10-20 pages.

customizeable option: Display deviations in grid or one by one.

To show there are multiple images on a post that may not be so obviously telling, display a downward arrow to scroll.

Lock deviation screen so title stays in a fixed place, or allow the entire page to scroll.

Literature

Big thumbs and small thumbs were useful. Now that they're gone, there are more hoops to jump through.

critique of thumbs removal

The first image is a thumb. The second is one that uses an html code.

Process:

Open favored image in new tab, or copy image address, enter html code, (or research it because not everyone knows how to code,).

Current cons to this method: The code is messy.

Search

... did they seriously remove the button that allows you to filter search items by date??? IT only shows what is popular now??? that doesn't help discoverability at all.

Comments

Multiple times in two weeks my comments have not uploaded even though after I've finished my post it displays it as posted. Upon clicking refresh the page, my comment disapears and does not reappear. This is very frustrating.

Features I like that have been Implemented:

Journal

- Cleaner Writing interface.

- Justify

- Quick font customization

Deviations

- folder sorting from within the edit of a deviation

Mobile

Ipad specifically

Messages and Notifications - Highlight and select sporadically causes zoom and does not support drag select batch. also does not actually delete even though it says it did. None are deleted from my browser on chrome either. How is anyone suppossed to use this???

... deviantart, this isn't a finished site. What is this. old webpages are still here. Do you even know what you're doing? Do you even know what you want? An art forum or twitter?

i've been navigating here for a few 30 minutes now, and I'm just... lost, everything lags, and I'm kinda claustrophobic looking at all these large images and information cuts off screen, and not knowing where it is.

I'm gonna go and listen to some synthwave and try to decide if I actually am going to stay or look elsewhere to set down my art base.

But im not happy about it.

Now i try to give things a chance. I do. I did. I have. But I find that its pretty rude of DA to not listen and force us to like/live something we never wanted. Some of us have been here for years, and we have time, people and memories invested here that they apparently don't hold as sacred as we do.

To remove features that we're used to, to destroy time capsules of people who have passed away, to throw away the time people have spent to make their sites look unique like the people they are, all of this to modernize it??? DA was meant to be a forum where everyone could be found and gather with their friends. As soon as they started moving in this "revolutionizing modernization" everything started going down hill. Now it takes forever to find things, and I'm clicking several things at once before i actually arrive at the destination i want to be in. I feel like im doing the work the computer should be doing. I can't open things in a new tab like posts, I have to backtrack after i read those things. Half the time its unresponsive and doesn't work.

And i don't know what they're thinking with this mechanical synchronization of appearances... because that is the bane of creativity and uniqueness. That's what artists are all about. We're not robots. and our tools shouldn't be treated so either. this uniquness is what makes them fun to use.

Why are they pushing this is if its not finished? They have no reason to do this if they haven't already reformed Groups and the forums themselves. Are these going to be left the same for months while all the individuals are permanently changed?

I've been here for eight years and they refuse to take criticism and close submissions for it while carrying on with the parade that they're creating something wonderful when they haven't proven it yet. Its... kind of a delusional way of thinking.

I've hardly paid for Core because of hard times, though I've been tempted to for the sub folders. They're imperative for projects with characters and environments. I just don't see any point in that now. The whole system takes too long to bother with, and it seems a waste of time and money.

xF I hope better oppurtunities branch out for all of us here. There's no reason we should all be forced along one narrow path when we're all in so many different places and times. we walk our own without even realizing it, and we have to use what we've learned or learn what we don't in order to split the path. Its like finding a path in the woods. First, its traveled by wagon. Then, its paved. then hundreds and then thousands of people are going along.

I don't mean to complain at DA to say everything they're doing is bad. No, not everything they're doing is bad. Just perhaps done with a shaky stroke and the wrong shade of green. Change isn't bad. Its their abrasive behavior towards their will to listen and grow to anything more than their prideful idealism of design when their customer just wants something that works and is functional.
